- Indian Head Massage & Indian Champissage
What exactly is the difference between all of these massage techniques? How can they help with pain or stiffness? Which one is best for you?
I see an increasing number of clients with muscular aches, pain, stiffness & lack of movement. This can be due to many factors: lack of exercise; lack of general mobility due to illness or injury; over-exercise & not allowing muscles to properly relax; long working hours; desk-based work (causing the classic C-shaped hunching spine); long hours of driving, travelling or commuting; stress, anxiety & emotionally-held tension, or simply a sedentary lifestyle.
Whatever the cause there are many different massage techniques which I can offer to help you & I often choose to combine them. I have therefore decided to compile a series of small articles letting you know about each kind of massage technique & method I have trained in. The fourth of these will be about Facial Rejuvenation Massage also known as Natural Facelift Massage. As usual please click on anything highlighted in green, which will take you to a weblink.
‘I would definitely recommend this treatment to others because it definitely works! My face feels & looks rejuvenated, my skin glows after treatment, the skin around my eyes looks tighter & my forehead wrinkles are so much smoother. Best of all my tension headaches have gone.’ (K.O)
Facial Rejuvenation Massage – In A Nutshell
Facial Rejuvenation Massage (FRM) is a highly popular & sought-after treatment. It uses massage of the face & neck to reduce muscular tension, & consequently firms the skin, thus reducing habitual expression lines. There are many different styles calling themselves by this name but I practise the original method – the official Facial Rejuvenation Massage as created & pioneered by the London Centre of Indian Champissage International (LCICI). Due to its success it has since been emulated by many massage training schools but they lack the high standards held by LCICI. As part of the course I undertook a long & rigorous training followed by both a written & practical exam.
FRM is a pure massage – it uses no oils, products or equipment other than the hands – excellent for anyone with skin sensitivity. It is used both clinically for facial & jaw tension & as an amazing beauty & holistic treatment.
It can help to:
- release facial & neck tension
- relieve scalp tightness
- assist with skin conditions such as Psoriasis, Eczema & Dermatitis
- relieve jaw & tension headaches
- lift & firm the skin
- smooth & improve skin texture
- minimise lines & wrinkles – in a completely natural way
‘I was not expecting it to be so relaxing, far more so than any other kind of massage I’ve had – it’s almost like a kind of meditation. Also no more facial tension and jaw pain – it’s amazing!’ (J.M)
Facial Rejuvenation Massage – In Detail
Clinical Massage
Facial Rejuvenation Massage is a very effective way to release facial & neck tension, particularly if this leads to jaw pain, tension headaches & migraines. It incorporates:
- activation of specific acupressure points
- friction movements to detect areas of tension
- effleurage & varying techniques to encourage the letting go of habitual facial expressions
The areas of focus are the muscles of the face, neck & scalp that can naturally become tight, particularly when due to stress. The main muscles treated are:
- Temporomandibular Jawbone: along the jaw
- Masseter: behind & in front of the ears
- Temporalis: at the temples
- Frontalis: at the front of the scalp
- Occipitals: at the back of scalp
- Upper Trapezius: top of the shoulders
- Levator scapulae & Splenius capitis: upper back & neck
- Sternocleidomastoid & Scalenes: along the sides & front of the neck
‘I had no expectations but have been pleasantly surprised to find it so effective. My face feels more energized, fresher with less lines. I feel really calm, always sleep better and more able to think clearly.’
(J.G, aromatherapist & massage therapist)
Skin Treatment
Facial Rejuvenation Massage is very specific & employs many different techniques:
- Ayurvedic smoothing methods are employed to desquamate (a natural ‘facial scrub’) & to ‘iron out’ fine lines
& wrinkles - deeper techniques release restrictions in the connective tissue of the dermis & lift the underlying facial muscles
- blood circulation is increased
- elimination of toxins is improved
- tissues can become more mobile
- treatment finishes with lymphatic drainage, scalp massage & grounding techniques
‘I love it, I love every minute of it. After the treatments everything feels much firmer – it’s like my face has had a workout of the muscles.’ (C.W)
